Hot January Sarasota Fishing!
Offshore fishing trips have not dissappointed this month off Sarasota! With the "cold temperatures" we have opted on many charters to have a mid morning departure to allow the sun to come up and warm the water and air up a few degrees. Layers and long pants have been the needed attire, although quite a few northern felt 50-60-degree high temperatures were not worthy of a pants or a jacket! Several guests were quite happy when I offered them jackets or pants from the extra stash I keep on the boat this time of year!
Red Grouper and amberjack both reopended this month and have been very willing to feed. A slower presentaion and a variety of baits have been key. Large mangrove snapper as well as gag grouper have also been on the list.
A group of happy Ohio State Buckeye football fans getting ready to watch the National Championship game had a great 4 hour trip on Red Grouper and had plenty of fish for their championship party. A large end of the the month deep water trolling trip for tuna and wahoo was unfortunately canceled to do a cold front and large seas.
